GMA Kapuso Foundation to build 2-storey school building in Minalabac, Camarines Sur

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is set to build a two-storey Kapuso school building at the Malitbog Elementary School in Minalabac, Camarines Sur.

According to "24 Oras" Wednesday, Minalabac was among the areas that were greatly affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine back in 2024, and some of the school's classrooms had sustained damage due to flooding.

The planned Kapuso school building is specifically designed for flood-prone areas like Minalabac and will feature three classrooms for Grade 4 and Grade 5 students.

"Itatayo natin ang kauna-unahang flood-resistant GMA Kapuso school. It is a school on stilts, [with] three classrooms, three bathrooms. We had to figure out a way of how to build a school that rises to the challenge of persistent flooding," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP & COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog.

According to GMA Kapuso Foundation consultant, Engr. Baltazar Babas, the ground floor of the building will feature a playground and a working area for the students, while the classrooms will be on the second floor.

The Philippine Army's 9th Infantry Division and the local government unit of Minalabac will also asisst in the construction of the school building.

"We will be supplying the needed aggregates, mga supplies, construction materials na kinakailangan," said Minalabac Mayor James Colin Lizardo.

BGen William Peñafiel Jr., Commander of the 902nd Infantry Brigade of the 9th Infantry Division, also said that they will provide manpower, transportation assistance, and security personnel for the project.
