Residents affected by Tino in Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar receive food packs from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Thousands of residents in Southern Leyte and Eastern Samar who were affected by Typhoon Tino have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to "24 Oras" Friday, among those who benefited from the foundation's Operation Bayanihan project were residents of Silago, Southern Leyte, where Tino made landfall early this week.
Rodel Magayon, a resident of Silago, had lost his home due to the onslaught of Tino. The typhoon also toppled his coconut trees, which are the source of his livelihood.
"Mahirap na kami tapos ngayon nawalaan kami ng bahay. Mas lalo kami maghirap dito kasi 'yung mga niyog na 'yan wala na, pabagsak na 'yung mga bunga na 'yan," he said.
In Barangay Salvacion, several fishermen had secured their boats in a covered court so they would not get damaged due to the typhoon.
"Ito talaga ang pinaka-una naming sinafety bago ang bahay namin. Umaasa lang kami sa dagat, kaya sa ngayon ang aasahan na lang talaga namin ay 'yung may mga malambot na puso," said Arnie Malaki, president of the Salvacion Fisherfolks Organization.
GMA Kapuso Foundation headed to five coastal barangays in Silago where it distributed food packs to the affected residents. It also brought help to affected communities in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.
"Disrupted talaga 'yung water source namin dito. Kailangan talaga namin ng tubig, pagkain, hygiene kit po, and shelter materials, shelter kits," said Alfie Almine of the Silago Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
In total, 12,000 individuals received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
The foundation also continues to distribute food packs to affected residents in Cebu and Homonhon Island in Eastern Samar.
It has also started preparing relief goods in Cagayan, as well as Camarines Sur and Sorsogon in Bicol as Severe Tropical Storm Uwan makes its way towards the Philippines.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is also on standby in Quezon and at its headquarters in Quezon City in anticipation of Uwan.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
