Over 16k individuals affected by Uwan in Catanduanes receive food packs from Kapuso Foundation

More than 16,000 individuals in Catanduanes who were affected by Super Typhoon Uwan received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Monday, Barangay Cobo in Pandan has yet to fully recover from Super Typhoon Pepito's onslaught in 2024 when Uwan hit early this month, leaving the community's pier and roads damaged.

Fernando Ferrer, a fisherman from Brgy. Cobo, shared that his boat — worth P60,000 — was destroyed by a storm surge caused by Uwan.

"Ano pa nga ’yon, apat na buwan... 'Di ko pa mabawi 'yung binili ko doon. Sabi ko nga, baka may gobyernong tumulong,” Ferrer said. “Humihingi po kami ng tulong sa panghanapbuhay sa dagat, kasi ’yun lang ang ikinabubuhay namin dito,”

Ferrer's neighbor, Elizabeth Nieras, also suffered losses after strong waves washed away her home. She is temporarily staying in her aunt's house, the ceiling of which was also damaged by a storm surge.

To provide lift to affected residents, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed food packs to more than 16,000 individuals in five towns in Catanduanes, namely Pandan, Bagamanoc, Virac, Panganiban, and Caramoran.

Previously, it brought aid to thousands of residents affected by Uwan in Northern Samar, Camarines Sur, Cagayan, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Albay, and more.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
