24k individuals affected by Tino in Cebu, Southern Leyte receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

The GMA Kapuso Foundation continues to extend assistance to thousands of Filipinos affected by Typhoon Tino.

According to "24 Oras" Wednesday, a total of 24,000 individuals in Cebu and Southern Leyte have received food packs from the GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project.

Among the beneficiaries is Edlyn Mae Torres from Consolacio, Cebu, who shared that she and her family had to climb up to their ceiling as floodwaters rose.

"Sinira po namin para makaakyat kami. Delikado din po kasi hindi po matibay 'yung kisame. Puwede kami malaglag sa baba," she said.

Residents in the area reportedly only have water supply for four hours a day and still have no access to electricity since the onslaught of Tino.

In Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, Efren Pie and his family also found themselves seeking refuge in their ceiling as Tino hit.

"Hindi naman kami pwede lumabas kasi malakas na ang tubig sa labas. First time namin mangyari ‘to, kasi 'yung unang Bagyong Odette wala namang baha, hangin lang 'yun at ulan. Ngayon lang 'tong baha, may dala pang putik," he said.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed food packs to 24,000 individuals in Cebu and Southern Leyte and continues to provide aid to affected communities in Negros Occidental and Palawan.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.

According to data from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) released Monday, the reported death toll from the onslaught of Tino has reached 269.

In Cebu alone, a total of 150 fatalities were recorded.

Meanwhile, a total of 523 individuals sustained injuries due to the tropical cyclone, of which 451 were from Cebu, 41 in Leyte, 28 in Negros Occidental, two in Surigao del Norte, and one in Surigao del Sur.  A total of 113 people were reported missing.
