GMA Kapuso Foundation classrooms serve as shelters for Catanduanes families amid typhoons
GMA Kapuso Foundation classrooms in Catanduanes have become dependable shelters for families weathering the typhoons that hit the province, including Super Typhoon Uwan early this November.
According to a report on “24 Oras,” Friday, residents from Bagamanoc and nearby towns have long relied on the Kapuso School Development Project structures for their durability and safety during strong storms.
Three Kapuso classrooms and a handwashing facility had been completed at Mabini Elementary School in Panganiban, while seven had been built at Palta Elementary School in Virac.
For the family of Clarita Arcilla, these classrooms have been a trusted refuge during typhoons.
“May tiwala po sa pagkakagawa nito ng GMA. Totoo naman po talaga, wala namang kahit anong nabaklas,” Clarita said.
Gary Arcilla, who witnessed the construction firsthand, said the Kapuso schools were designed with the province’s vulnerabilities in mind.
“Nakita ko ’yung trabaho, talagang matibay. Karamihan sa kanila, pumupunta sila dito tapos ‘pag may mga sakunang darating,” he said.
“Sinigurado natin na matibay ’yung ating mga classroom pagdating sa lindol, especially sa typhoon, dahil ang Catanduanes, situated siya, daanan talaga ng mga bagyo,” Engr. Arnel Zantua said.
For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
