6 Kapuso classrooms in Aurora serve as refuge for residents affected by Uwan
Six Kapuso classrooms built by the GMA Kapuso Foundation in Villa Aurora Elementary School in Maria Aurora, Aurora, withstood the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan and served as a refuge for residents who needed shelter during the calamity.
According to "24 Oras" on Monday, Evangeline Gallardo and her family were among those who evacuated to the Kapuso classrooms when Uwan hit the province.
"Tuwing may bagyo po, dito po kami lumilikas. Pakiramdam po namin kasi mas safe po kami dito. Nagpapasalamat po kami sa GMA Kapuso," said Gallardo.
"Kinakabahan kami baka kung ano nangyari sa school, pero pagdating po namin dito, safe pa rin po. Matibay," also said Villa Aurora Elementary School head teacher Reagan Lawis
Per Kapuso Foundation supervising engineer Arnel Zantua, the classrooms did not sustain any major damage during the typhoon.
"Minake sure natin na 'yung kisame tsaka 'yung trusses niya talagang nag-a-act siya as one kasi para kapag nagkaroon ng malalakas na hangin, hindi agad-agad masisira," he explained.
The Kapuso Foundation continues to construct more classrooms in the country for the benefit of flood-prone communities, including a two-storey classroom in Malitbog Elementary School in Minalabac, Camarines Sur.
