Malabon honors volunteers during Christmas tree lighting for service, compassion
Malabon City's Christmas tree lighting was made more special as the city paid tribute to its volunteers for their tireless service during calamities.
According to Jamie Santos' report on "24 Oras" Thursday, the lighting of the 40-foot Christmas tree took place at the Welcome Arc in Barangay Tonsuya. This was followed by a breathtaking display of fireworks.
The city's theme this year is "May Your Wish Come True," which symbolizes the aspirations and goals of Malabueños to make the city inclusive and prosperous for everybody.
During the event on Thursday evening, 21 agencies, organizations, and volunteers were honored for their service to the community.
Per Santos' report, the volunteers also highlighted the true meaning of Christmas, which is all about having a heart that is ready to serve the community.
The recognition of the volunteers was in observance of International Volunteers Day (IVD). Held every December 5, IVD acknowledges the efforts of volunteers worldwide for inspiring action and promoting community service.
Thursday's event likewise celebrated the winners of Malabon's Cleanest and Greenest Barangay contest, which highlighted Malabueños' discipline and unity, as well as care for the environment.
