Manila City illuminates its Christmas tree and celebrates with a concert

The Manila City government officially illuminated its giant Christmas tree at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Ermita, which drew crowds for a fun night of lights, holiday cheer, and good music.

According to Jamie Santos' report on "24 Oras" Friday, the Christmas tree lighting was followed by a Christmas concert that featured various musical groups, including the Manila City Band.

Underneath the towering Christmas tree, a panel powered by an electric vehicle illuminated the area.

Aside from the concert, the event also featured bazaars offering various food and snacks to allow attendees to refuel.

Per Santos' report, the Manila LGU said that the Christmas tree lighting this year is more than just a spectacle as it underscores the true spirit and meaning of Christmas: hope, love, and resilience.

"Sobrang saya, sobrang nanamnam po namin ang kapaskuhan dito sa Pilipinas," one attendee said.

"Kahit anong mangyari, dapat maging masaya tayo dahil 'yun ang kapanganakan ng ating Panginoon," another said.
