GMA Kapuso Foundation constructs bridge in Rodriguez, Rizal
A new and sturdy bridge has been constructed in Barangay Puray, Rodriguez, Rizal, by the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
As reported by Mel Tiangco on “24 Oras” on Monday, the water level of the river in Brgy. Puray rises fast whenever it rains, putting at risk the lives of students who cross the river just to get to school.
"Malakas po 'yung ulan nun kaso wala pong cancellation, so pumasok pa rin po kami nun, tapos pagtawid po namin diyan muntik na po kaming anudin. Wala pong taling kinakapitan, kami-kami lang po talaga," said Jane, a student.
Roxan Del Rosario, a volunteer teacher, knows too well the struggle of the students. She also used to cross the river back when she was still studying and until now, when she is already a teacher.
"Mabato, pag malabo na po 'yung tubg, hindi na natin nakikita yung ilalim, 'yung tatapakan natin so may tendency talagang madudulas ka, mababasa ka pati 'yung mga gamit mo," she said.
To help the residents, the Kapuso Foundation started building the bridge in August in Brgy. Puray, which was also among the areas strongly hit by Typhoon Carina in 2024.
The 50-meter-long cable-suspended concrete and steel hanging bridge will connect Sitio Bagong Sigla and Sitio Mabolo in Puray.
“Maraming-maraming salamat po. Lahat po sila makikinabang. Lalo na po ‘yung mga bata, hindi na po nila kailangang mag-risk ng kaligtasan nila,” said Del Rosario.
According to the report, the bridge is set to be inaugurated on December 24, just in time for Christmas.
