Residents in Gainza, Camarines Sur receive vegetable seeds from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Residents in Gainza, Camarines Sur received vegetable seeds from GMA Kapuso Foundation under its Gulayan sa Bakuran project under the Give a Gift, Feed a Child feeding program.

According to "24 Oras" Friday, the initiative was rolled out in 2025 when the GMA Kapuso Foundation launched the feeding program to 300 students in Gainza.

The project has made a significant difference for Lynda Baer. The vegetables she grows helped improve the health of her child through proper nutrition, while the surplus is sold to support their daily needs.

However, there are times when Lynda’s harvest is scarce, especially during inclement weather, such as when Super Typhoon Uwan struck in 2025 and damaged her crops.

"'Yung pechay, 50 kilos ang isang kilo, binili ko ng fertilizer tsaka pantanim ulit para dumami, para 'di maputol. Sige-sige lang," she said.

"Ito na lang nakuha naming. Kahit nabagyo kami, ipagpapatuloy naming 'yung pagtatanim."

Per the report, the Give a Gift, Feed a Child program, along with the Gulayan sa Bakuran project, aims to ensure that each child gets the proper and right nutrition.

"Ang Gulayan sa Bakuran is to make sure na maging sustainable 'yung feeding program natin at magkaroon ng food security 'yung mga bata," said GMA Kapuso Foundation nutritionist Royce Anne Octavio.

Meanwhile, Carol Ivy Saballegue of the Gainza Municipal Nutrition Action, highlighted the importance of proper sleep aside from nutritious food when it comes to ensuring a child's health.

"Dapat may wastong tulog po 'yung mga bata at lalong-lalo na po at mahilig na sila sa gadgets. Masunod 'yung mga tamang pagkain at nutrisyon, 'yung mga bata po ay lalaking healthy, matalino po, masigla, at hindi antukin," she said.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
