900 families affected by Mayon unrest in Albay receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

A total of 900 families affected by Mayon Volcano's unrest in Albay, Bicol, received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

According to a "24 Oras" report on Monday, residents in Brgy. Quirangay in Camalig within Mayon's six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone had to temporarily evacuate to the Kapuso classrooms in Bariw Elementary School.

Meanwhile, in Brgy. San Andres in Sto. Domingo, residents have started building huts for shelter in case the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) places Mayon Volcano under Alert Level 4.

"May mauuwian dito, kasi ang hirap naman na 'pag pumutok na wala kaming [mauwian]," said resident Emma Banastao.

Per the report, over 1,100 families in Albay are temporarily staying in evacuation centers due to the volcano's continued activity.

To help, GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed food packs and N95 masks to residents in Barangay Muladbucad, Guinobatan. It also distributed rice and congee mix to affected families staying in Bariw Elementary School and Sto. Domingo Central School.

In total, 900 families benefited from the mercy mission.

"Lubos-lubos po ang pasasalamat sa GMA Foundation sa palaging pagtulong sa Albay," said Maria Vivian Cea of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office in Albay

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
