GMA Kapuso Foundation distributes food packs to 4k individuals affected by Basyang in Iligan
The GMA Kapuso Foundation extended aid to individuals who were affected by Tropical Storm Basyang in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.
According to Mel Tiangco’s report in “24 Oras” on Friday, a bridge in Iligan City was damaged and almost swept away by rushing logs during the height of the typhoon.
“Hindi ko pinansin na may troso sa daan, may malalaking kahoy kasi madilim eh. Sinabihan ako na umatras, pag-atras ko bumigay ‘yung steel bridge,” said Roel Raman Jr., a resident.
The bridge was helpful to the everyday lives of the community members, especially to students in the area.
Meanwhile, Cherrypie Bagares’ home was swept away by the floods. She and her family were forced to move three times as the floods kept reaching the shelters they sought refuge in.
“Mga twelve o'clock ata ng umaga na so akala namin humupa na ‘yung tubig. Kampante na kami kasi humupa na ‘yung tubig. Pagdating ng two o'clock ng umaga biglang tumaas hanggang sa narinig namin ‘yung bahay na nasisira na iya talaga, kinakain na siya ng tubig,” Cherrypie said.
Cherrypie and her family are currently staying in a makeshift shelter as they slowly recover from the typhoon.
“Tulungan niyo po kami na makabangon ulit. Marami pa po ang mga pamilya na nawalan ng bahay,” she said.
To help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, under its Operation Bayanihan Project, distributed food packs to 4,000 individuals in barangays Pugaan, Luinab, and Palao in Iligan City.
Aside from Iligan City, the foundation also distributed aid to residents in Labo and Vinzons in Camarines Norte, as well as those in the towns of Lanuza and Cortez, Surigao del Sur, who were affected by the inclement weather due to the shear line.
Some 467,000 individuals were affected by Basyang in Visayas and Mindanao.
