GMA Kapuso Foundation gives food packs to residents affected by Basyang in Surigao del Sur
GMA Kapuso Foundation extended its help to thousands of residents affected by the recent Tropical Storm Basyang in Lanuza and Cortes, Surigao del Sur.
According to a report on “24 Oras," Monday, tree trunks and thick mud due to the landslides and flooding still littered the roads.
For Cherry Joy Tio, a resident of Lanuza, only the flooring is left of their home.
“Nawalan po kami ng bahay, pati mga gamit. Mga damit namin, wala. Walang natira kahit isa,” she said.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Poblacion in Cortes, a bridge in the community was damaged due to Basyang, forcing residents to use bamboo and wood to cross.
“Nung first few days, wala ho talagang nakarating kasi putol po ‘yung bridge namin,” said PIO Cortes Officer-in-Charge Mildred Aruyal. “Wala kaming source of water, mahirap po ‘yung food.”
To help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, under its Operation Bayanihan project, distributed food packs to affected residents in Lanuza and Cortes. The foundation also partnered with the 36th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, which provided transportation, security, and manpower assistance for the mission.
In total, 6,000 individuals received aid from the foundation.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
