3K families affected by inclement weather in Camarines Norte receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Thousands of families, including farmers in Camarines Norte, who were affected by the inclement weather caused by the shear line early this February received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to "24 Oras" on Wednesday, Alicia Batas, a farmer from Barangay Bakiad, Labo, lost the rice crops she was supposed to harvest this March due to the heavy rains in the past few weeks.

Alicia had loaned P38,000 as capital for the crops, which she expected would bring in around P80,000 to P100,000.

"Nakapagtanim na kami, tapos bigla na lang bumaha. 'Yung palay namin na nagbubulaklak na, wala na ngayon, maitim na bunga niya," she said.

Maria Lailani, a farmer in Barangay Mangcayo, Vinzons, also lost her vegetable crops due to the inclement weather. The harvest would have earned her P12,000.

"Nangamatay po, natunaw na po," she said.

Brgy. Mangcayo is surrounded by five rivers, per the report, making it prone to flooding during storms and heavy rains.

"Kaya 'pag bumaba po ang tubig galing sa Bundok Labo dito po dumiderecho sa aming lugar kaya ito pong aming Barangay Mangcayo ay lumulubog sa baha," said MDRRMO Vinzons, Camarines Norte Operations Officer Mark Romer Elep.

To help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation under its Operation Bayanihan project distributed food packs to 3,000 families, including farmers, from seven barangays in Vinzons and Labo, Camarines Norte.

The foundation partnered with the 42nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army to carry out the relief operations.

"Maraming maraming salamat sa GMA Kapuso [Foundation] sa pagiging partner namin sa aktibidades na ito upang matugunan ang pangangailangan ng mga kabayan natin," said Capt. Kim Carlo T. Garino, CMO Officer, 42IB, 9ID PA.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information. —CDC, GMA Integrated News
