Jasmine Curtis calls out Bong Suntay for Anne Curtis remark, says issue is about 'all women'
Jasmine Curtis-Smith expressed her anger and disappointment toward Rep. Bong Suntay after he made an inappropriate remark about her sister, Anne Curtis.
On Facebook, the Kapuso actress said the issue goes beyond “one female celebrity,” stressing that it reflects how all women are continuously “reduced to bodies in spaces dominated by men in power.”
She criticized the lawmaker for publicly narrating his supposed “desire” and imagination about a woman he claimed to have seen, saying it normalizes objectification.
“It reinforces a culture that treats women as consumable, as spectacle, as fantasy, as objects for commentary rather than as whole human beings with agency, intellect, and autonomy,” she wrote.
Jasmine also said that public officials are expected to “elevate discourse, not diminish it,” emphasizing that the government should focus on women’s contributions and leadership.
She also rejected attempts to downplay the remark as harmless.
“We cannot continue excusing this as ‘just being honest’ or ‘just a compliment.’ It is neither,” she wrote, adding that, “Respect is not complicated.”
She called for accountability from those in power, saying that if the public wants safer environments for “our daughters, nieces, and future leaders,” accountability must begin with elected officials.
In a separate post on X, Jasmine also called out Suntay, saying his remark was not a compliment and wrote, “Kadiri po kayo.”
On Tuesday, members of the House committee on justice called out Suntay for verbalizing his apparent desire for Anne during the proceedings on the pending impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Alam niyo, minsan, minsan nasa Shangri-La ako. Nakita ko si Anne Curtis. Ang ganda-ganda pala niya. You know, may desire sa loob ko na nag-init talaga, na-imagine ko na lang kung ano’ng pwedeng mangyari, pero siyempre hanggang imagination na lang ‘yon. Pero ‘di naman siguro ako pwedeng kasuhan kung ano ang na-imagine ko eh,” Suntay said.
Likewise, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte urged Suntay to apologize for his remarks.
"We call on Congressman Suntay to take full accountability for his remarks, issue a proper apology, and conduct himself with the dignity that his office—and our city—demand. Our people deserve no less," the Mayor said.
