Fifty families in Viga, Catanduanes, whose homes were hit by Typhoon Uwan last November received roofing materials from GMA Kapuso Foundation under its Silong Kapuso Project.

According to a "24 Oras" report Monday, Victor Tubale and his family were among those whose home was partially damaged by Uwan.

Four months on, and Tubale's family has yet to recover, relying on tarpaulins and corrugated sheets to patch up their home. Tubale, per the report, only earns P400 a day as a construction worker and has resorted to saving leftover wood to rebuild it.

"'Yung mga natira po na nasira na [kahoy], pinulot ko na rin po para maikabit ulit," he said.

Elvie Toleda's home was also partially damaged by Uwan, and she has resorted to using cardboard sheets to cover her damaged roof.

"'Pag sira na 'yung bubong, tumutulo na 'yung ulan. lalagyan ko ng karton lang, i-ano ko sa butas. Hirap na hirap kami, kung saan 'yung walang tulo, doon kami hihiga, doon kami uupo," she said.

To help the residents rebuild their homes, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed roofing materials to Tubale and Toleda, as well as to 48 other families.

They also received food packs from the foundation.

"Meron siyang 10 pieces na roofing sheet, meron dalawang ridge roll, 25 total assorted lumber, common nails, and also roofing nails," said GMA Kapuso Foundation supervising engineer Arnel Zantua.

The families' partially damaged homes have now been repaired, thanks to the help of the 83rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, community members, and volunteers.

"Sobra na nagpapasalamat po kami kasi nabigyan po kami ng tulong para maigawa naming 'yung bahay namin," Tubale said.
