South Korean president hopes BTS comeback will share 'our beautiful cultural heritage and K-culture'

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed optimism over BTS’ upcoming performance in Seoul, saying he hopes the group’s return to the stage will once again highlight the strength of Korean culture.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lee pointed to the March 21 concert at Gwanghwamun Square as a significant cultural moment.

“Under the theme of ‘Arirang,’ I hope this becomes a meaningful time to share the charm of our beautiful cultural heritage and K-culture,” Lee said, according to a translation by The Chosun Daily.

Alongside his message of support, Lee assured the public that preparations are underway to ensure the concert runs smoothly.

“We are making thorough preparations with relevant ministries, local governments, police, fire departments, and other related institutions to ensure the event proceeds safely. We will meticulously and thoroughly prepare for all procedures, including traffic and crowd management before and after the performance, and emergency response measures,” he said.

He urged citizens to follow safety protocols and demonstrate discipline throughout the event.

“Please cooperate with the on-site safety staff’s guidance and report any illegal ticket scalping that disrupts market order.”

He ended his post by expressing confidence that the BTS performance will demonstrate the global influence of Korean culture.

“I hope this BTS performance will once again prove the great power of culture created by South Korea and become a special moment long remembered by people worldwide.”

BTS' performance at Gwanghwamun Square will be a free concert, coinciding with a city-wide celebration of their upcoming album, "Arirang." Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected to attend.

The show will also be streamed on Netflix on March 21.

Ahead of the performance, BTS will release “Arirang,” their first group album since 2022, on March 20.

The title is inspired by a traditional Korean folk song, described as the country's unofficial anthem.

In April, BTS will kick off their "Arirang" world tour, with the first two stops set to be broadcast in cinemas worldwide.

The Philippine stop is happening in 2027.
