GMA Kapuso Foundation donates roofing materials, food packs to residents affected by Uwan in Catanduanes
The GMA Kapuso Foundation has donated roofing materials to families in San Miguel, Catanduanes, who were affected by Super Typhoon Uwan last November.
According to a report on “24 Oras," Wednesday, some residents continue to endure the effects of Uwan and have been living under broken roofs and tarpaulins just to have shelter.
Jonalyn Tesorero and her family in Sitio Sunduan, Barangay Pagsangahan, endure intense heat and the cold during inclement weather after their roof was damaged by the super typhoon. To cope, they have gathered scattered metal sheets and tarpaulins to patch up the roof.
"Nababasa pa din po kami kasi tumutulo pa rin. Hindi po kami makabili ng yero kasi po may tatlo po akong anak na nag-aaral. 'Yun po ang aming priority,” Jonalyn said.
Uwan also damaged the hanging bridge in the area, prompting the barangay to lend the residents a canoe so they can travel across the river. If there is no canoe available, Jonalyn is forced to swim.
Per the report, the GMA Kapuso Foundation donated roofing materials under its Silong Kapuso Project to help rebuild 61 partially damaged homes in the area. Residents also received food packs from the foundation.
“Maraming maraming salamat po sa pagbigay niyo ng importansya sa aming barangay. Malaking bagay po ‘yun na tulong niyo,” said Romulo Polero, barangay captain of Pagsangahan.
"Maraming salamat po sa GMA Kapuso Foundation. Maayos na po kaming masisilungan,” Jonalyn also said.
The foundation likewise donated medicines to the rural health unit of San Miguel.
