The GMA Kapuso Foundation is set to build Kapuso classrooms in two schools in Cebu that were damaged by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake and Typhoon Tino last year.

According to Mel Tiangco’s report on “24 Oras” on Wednesday, students in Daanbantayan and Medellin remained determined to continue their education despite these back-to-back calamities.

At Talisay Integrated School in Daanbantayan, Grade 6 students are temporarily holding their classes along a covered walkway after the earthquake damaged their classrooms.

"'Yung ulan pumapasok sa kanila, 'pag mainit naman masyado rin mainit kasi mababa ang bubong,”  said Angel Duarte, a parent.

Meanwhile, students at Panugnawan Elementary School in Medellin are currently holding their classes in a covered court while classroom repairs are ongoing.

Their school principal, Abner Masong, has been hands-on in helping repaint and fix the damaged school facilities.

“Konti kasi yung budget para sa labor, tapos ang mga gagawin, malaki ba. Gabi na ako umuwi,” he said.

For safe and conducive learning spaces, the GMA Kapuso Foundation will construct new classrooms for the affected schools.

Two Kapuso classrooms with comfort rooms will be built at Talisay Integrated School, while three Kapuso classrooms with comfort rooms will rise at Panugnawan Elementary School.

According to GMA Kapuso Foundation supervising engineer Arnel Zantua, the new structures will are made of reinforced concrete.

“‘Yung ating wall is pure reinforced concrete combination na lang siya ng rebars and concrete,” he explained.

The GMA Foundation also distributed school supplies and vegetable seeds to the students.
