BTS 'Arirang' comeback by the numbers: Pop kings dominate from Netflix to Spotify

BTS has returned with "Arirang," and the numbers leave little room for debate. 

The South Korean supergroup did more than just stage a comeback; they orchestrated a cross-platform takeover, from a record-setting live event on Netflix to historic streaming highs on Spotify and Apple Music. 

Within days, BTS racked up millions of viewers, billions of social media impressions, and chart-topping placements across music charts, proving once again that they got ARMYs right behind them when they say so.

Netflix

From Seoul, South Korea, BTS performed their comeback stage to the world, with help from Netflix. The streaming giant broadcast the show "BTS The Comeback Live | Arirang" on Saturday night, and millions tuned in.

  • Entered the Weekly Top 10 in 80 countries

Spotify

"Arirang" landed on digital streaming platforms last Friday, and it was dynamite. Spotify reported that BTS has already set several records based on first-day global streams, and shared more data gathered in the weekend after release.

Apple Music

BTS has reached new highs on Apple Music. Here are some of the numbers, based on the platform's charts and official announcements.

  • “Swim” topped the Apple Music Global chart for 5 consecutive days (still counting)
  • Hit #1 in 111 countries
  • Album charted in 147 countries

Hanteo

Local album sales tracker Hanteo Chart recorded nearly 4 million first day sales, as confirmed by BigHit Music. 

  • 3.98 million sales in first 24 hours
  • surpasses BTS' first-week record of "Map of the Soul: 7" with 3.37 million in 2020

"Arirang" is BTS' first group album after a four-year hiatus, during which they served in the South Korean military.

The 14-track album, led by main single "Swim," has already garnered critical and commercial success.

BTS is composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They debuted under BigHit Music in 2013.
