Instilling environmental awareness among the youth took center stage as the GMA Kapuso Foundation launched its Kapuso ng Kalikasan project alongside the inauguration of a new Kapuso School building in Minalabac, Camarines Sur.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Friday, students, parents, and community members participated in a vegetable- and tree-planting activity under the Kapuso ng Kalikasan: Gulayan sa Paaralan project at Malitbog Elementary School.

Crops such as eggplant, string beans, and bitter gourd were planted to promote sustainability and provide an additional food source for families.

Among those who joined was Rochelle Valencia, whose daughter attends the said school. According to Rochelle, vegetable gardening has helped support her household.

“Ngayon po gusto ko magtanim para mapalago, mapakinabangan 'pag nagtanim mayroong aanihin. Kasi may pang-ulam na diyan... hindi na bibili,” she said.

In addition to the gardening project, trees were planted around the school to serve as natural protection for the newly built flood-resistant classroom—the first of its kind in the area.

“Mahalaga po ang pagtatanim para po mabawasan na po ang pagbaha at para po mayroon na pong aanihin sa susunod,” said student Khryz (not her real name).

The GMA Kapuso Foundation also distributed school bags with complete supplies to incoming Kindergarten to Grade 2 students for their educational needs.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
