The crew of the Artemis II mission has offered the world a breathtaking new perspective of Earth, releasing a high-resolution image taken during their historic journey around the Moon.

In a Facebook post, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) shared the crew's view of the Earth from deep space, revealing its vivid blues waters and swirling clouds against the vast darkness.

“That's us! The Artemis II crew captured beautiful, high-resolution images of our home planet during their journey to the Moon,” NASA wrote.

“As astronaut Christina Koch put it: ‘You guys look great,’” it added.

The four astronauts of the Artemis II mission ignited their spacecraft’s engine on April 2, leaving Earth’s orbit and heading toward the Moon.

It is the first crewed flyby mission to the Moon in more than 50 years.

The 10-day Artemis 2 mission is aimed at paving the way for a Moon landing in 2028.

If all proceeds smoothly, the astronauts will set a record by venturing farther from Earth than any human before -- more than 250,000 miles.

It is also the inaugural crewed flight of SLS, NASA's new lunar rocket.
