Fisherfolk in Zambales gets aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation amid high fuel prices

Fisherfolk in Palauig, Zambales who have been struggle with the high fuel prices have received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Fishing is one of the top sources of livelihood in Palauig, with 2,900 fisherfolk in the town, according to a report on “24 Oras” on Monday.

Fisherman Jerry Radona said he used to start work at 5 a.m. and finish before 12 p.m. Now, to raise more funds, he finishes work by 3 p.m.

“Nangonunsumo kami dati ng halagang tatlong daan, eh ngayon dahil nadoble, magiging siyam na raan ho ‘yun, ang magiging konsumo namin sa isang araw,” he said.

Froilan Algaba handles lobster, which he also exports and sells in Manila. He is also not safe from the high amount of spending in his day to day.

“Sa tracking naman po ang problema, nagtaas din po ang singil. Three-hundred ang itinaas po ng bawat biyahe,” he said.

Amid the town's plight, GMA Kapuso Foundation brought their Operation Bayanihan with the 69th Infantry Batallion of the Philippine Army, who helped give food packs to 450 fisherfolk in various barangays.

“Maraming maraming salamat po. Kahit papano, meron po kaming natanggap galing sa GMA Kapuso Foundation.”
