SB19 hopes Lollapalooza performance inspires people to learn about Filipino music, culture

SB19 is hard at work at rehearsals in the United States for their historic Lollapalooza performance this week.

According to Aubrey Carampel's report on "24 Oras" on Tuesday, leader Pablo said it's surreal that they got invited to the annual music festival.

"For seven years now, one of our goals is to really introduce Filipino music all over the world and to be able to perform in the biggest stages like Lollapalooza is such a dream," SB19's Pinuno said.

Stell said he got teary-eyed at a convenience store in Japan when he got the news that they would be performing.

"When they saw me, they were cheering for me. They were like, 'we can do this. Finally. It's a win for the Filipinos,' that finally there is a Filipino act performing for Lollapalooza," he said.

Josh and Justin said this milestone comes after years of hard work to champion Filipino music, which is why they have been working hard on the preparations.

"Right now, it's all making sense that everything actually is going fast and we are very thankful that we are getting the opportunity," Josh said. "So yeah, cannot believe at first, but right now, it's all sinking in."

Justin added that Lollapalooza is a big step towards their dream.

"So we shouldn't let this opportunity go to waste. So we should just do our best," he said.

Ken also thanked their fans A'TIN and their team.

"Everyone that keeps supporting us from the very beginning, we're just so thankful, full of gratitude in our heart," he said.

SB19 said their mission is to bring Filipino music, culture, and talent to the international stage. They also hope to inspire people to learn more about the Philippines.

"We just have to show like our authentic selves right. We just have to be there and represent our culture," Josh said.

"Hopefully, it becomes a ripple effect. It becomes one of the stepping stone where people could dive deep in the rabbit hole and see what Filipino music and what Filipino culture is all about," Pablo added.

SB19 is set to make history as the first Filipino group to perform at Lollapalooza on July 30. In August, they will head to Japan for Summer Sonic Festival.

They will also perform at the Grammy Museum for Global Spin Live on July 28 and throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees game on July 29.

SB19 will also hold thanksgiving fan meets in the US and Japan next month.

In October, the P-pop group will perform at the KPOPWORLD Festival in Texas.
