Rene Baterbonia’s parents donate Ateneo jersey to Boss Toyo

Rene Baterbonia’s parents, Rovelyn and Rene, have donated his Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School jersey to Boss Toyo.

Rovelyn and Rene paid a visit to the “Pinoy Pawnstars” YouTuber with the basketball jersey, which was worn by their late son and had not been washed.

The group looked back on Rene’s life and talked about how kind-hearted he was.

“He thinks of himself but also us,” Rovelyn said in Filipino.

“He would say that the day will come when our last name of Baterbonia will be very known, he said it will be famous because of his perseverance as a famous basketball player,” she added.

In the video, Boss Toyo also clarified that the jersey was donated or pledged to his museum, not sold. He also debunked the rumors that the jersey was being sold to him for P25 million.

“This will stay here forever and will never be for sale,” Boss Toyo said in Filipino. “You can count on us, ma’am, that we will take care of this, frame it."

According to Boss Toyo, Rene was kind because of the way his parents raised him. He also said that Filipinos have grown to love Rene because of his story of wanting to give his family a better life.

Rene and fellow Ateneo de Manila University men's basketball player Divine Adili, 21, died on June 8 during a team-building activity of the Blue Eagles.

Police later said Rene's cause of death was asphyxia by drowning based on a post-mortem examination.

In an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Rovelyn clarified the rumors surrounding her son’s death, such as the entrance fee at his mini-museum and not making money off his death.
