6 exciting things about the relationship of newlyweds Megan Young and Mikael Daez

Mikael Daez and Megan Young surprised the world when they announced they tied the knot on Saturday, January 25. 

Although they have been open about their relationship and travel moments together on social media since their relationship revelation in 2017, the Kapuso couple did not announce they were getting married this year.

In an interview with Tonight with Arnold Clavio in 2017, a month after announcing that they have been together for six years at that time, they shared a few interesting things about their relationship.

1. Mikael was inside a closet when he first met Megan

During the interview, Megan revealed she found Mikael's notebook where he noted he "met this really cute girl in a red dress" pertaining to Megan.

Mikael said it was during his fashion show for Garage magazine where Megan was host.

He narrated that during a rehearsal for the show, he was hiding inside a closet because he was cold, while Megan was looking for a jacket.

"Pagkabukas niya [ng closet] ako 'yong nandoon sa pintuan tapos sabi ko, 'Oh'. Eh ang ganda niya tapos sabi ko, 'Are you cold? Do you want my jacket?' Ayun na 'yong opening pick-up line ko sa kanya,"  he shared.

2. They kept their relationship a secret for six years

Megan and Mikael said they didn't bother to announce that they have been together for six years because everyone around them already knew and they got used to being low-key.

Mikael said at his press conference for "Legally Blind" in February 2017 that he decided to officially announce that they have been in a relationship.

“Nasanay na lang kami na hindi umaamin. Lahat naman ng friends namin, lahat ng workmates namin, alam na nila. Ang nangyari doon sa presscon kung saan ako nag-announce, tinanong nila ako, and naisip ko, 'Ay, hindi ko pa nga pala naaamin.' And I thought, 'Sige, aaminin ko na ngayon,'” Mikael said.

He continued, “Walang plano. Then I just texted her, 'You know what? I'm going to fill up your Twitter timeline. Maghanda ka bukas.'”

Megan said she was a little surprised but all she got were positive feedback and some comments from netizens telling them they already knew.

3. It was Megan who influenced Mikael to vlog

Megan said it was she who influenced Mikael to vlog and it was Mikael who influenced her to travel.

"Nagsimula 'yon, ako, film student kasi ako eh, so parang nahawaan ko siya sa hobby ng cameras and then he got more into it," Megan said.

Mikael added, "And then siya naman nahawa siya sa 'kin sa pagta-travel so nag-halo 'yon. So I guess mahilig lang kami mag-share and since hindi naman namin sinasabi sa tao na kami parang 'yon 'yong outlet namin."

4. Their favorite country to go back to is Japan

Megan and Mikael said their favorite country is Japan because of its food.

"Japanese food talaga favorite namin, hands down, 'yong lasa, 'yong feel, 'yong tao. Parang one day puro kami ramen, the next day puro katsudon. Ang sarap kumain," Megan shared.

They said it's routine for them to hit the gym early in the morning before they go on a food trip.

"'Yong schedule namin 'pag kumakain, kunwari gigising kami ng 6 a.m. Seven a.m., gym. After nu'n dire-diretso na 'yong kain."

5. Mikael calls Megan 'Bonez' because of her collarbones

Mikael said calling Megan 'Bonez' was supposed to be a joke about her visible collarbones until it became his official term of endearment for Megan.

"Nung first months kasi na nagde-date kami, I guess nakita ko 'yong collarbones niya. Sobrang payat niya eh, lawit na lawit 'yung bones niya dito. Parang hanger. So sabi ko, 'OK, I think I'm gonna call you Bonez from now on.' Tapos joke lang siya nu'ng una."

6. Mikael asked Megan if she can be his girlfriend on his birthday

Megan and Mikael became official boyfriend and girlfriend on January 6, Mikael's birthday, after three months of dating.

The two celebrated their ninth year together last January 6.
