So what counts as cheating?
Cheating is a seemingly easy thing to define: It's a definite a no-no in any relationship, right?
But there is a thin line between being really close with another, a one-night stand, and a sustained third-party. Does liking a post of an ex considered cheating? Is texting someone apart from your partner equivalent to disloyalty?
According to a research titled "Gender, Adult Attachment Styles, and the Tendency to Commit Dating Infidelity: A Mixed Methods Study" from the Philippine Journal of Psychology, there are three types of cheating or infidelity: emotional, sexual and combined.
First is emotional infidelity. This means loving someone apart from your current partner.
Sexual infidelity meanwhile is having sexual contact with a different person other than your partner.
Meanwhile, combined infidelity is the combination of both emotional and sexual cheating.
According to personality and relationship development consultant Nathaniel Chua, men are usually the ones who engage in sexual infidelity.
Women on the other hand, get involved in emotional attachment but without physical intimacy.
Chua added these types of infidelity not only applies to heterosexual relationships but also same-sex relationships as well.
