Mikael Daez opens up to Megan Young about father’s passing

Letting go of someone you love is one of the hardest things anyone ever has to do.

Mikael Daez, for example, was only 16 when his father passed away.

During a conversation with his wife Megan Young on their podcast, the Kapuso actor shared how difficult it was to say goodbye and how the experience helped shape him to be the man he is today.

"I guess my first real bout of having to let go was when my dad passed," Mikael began. "This moment in my life definitely shaped who I am now."

According to Mikael, "the first few years were definitely super duper difficult and I think I'm gonna talk about those few years moving forward because that's when my sense of nostalgia is super duper strong because at that time I had lost someone so important in my life," he added.

It was a difficult time, but Mikael admitted that moving on from his dad's passing helped himself "grow."

"The grieving process when I felt a lot of intense emotions that I could not process and understand, I think that was the very first time that I had to let go of someone. My dad was kind of like taken away but of course, trying to accept the fact I think that was the challenge," he said.

Mikael said, it didn't get much easier until years later during an important conversation with his uncle.

"For quite a while, when I was 16, 17, I was always thinking, 'Why?' So why did this happen? I guess that was stopping me from letting go because I was trying to understand it'," Mikael recalled.

"To be honest with you, if I were to sum up this one line that a tito told me, I mean of course this is not verbatim, I'm really summarizing it, he said 'Why not?'," he said.

"The way that hit me was that you know, he's in a better place so why would I deny my dad that? That was the one that helped me start to move on. And that is something I carried with me in life, apparently," he added.

Mikael often posts about his father on social media and shares how they had so much in common. Just last Father's Day, the Kapuso actor and model uploaded some photos from his dad's modelling days and compared it to a couple of his own. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
