GMA News assistant cameraman passes away due to COVID-19 complications

An assistant cameraman for GMA News passed away from complications due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to John Consulta's report on "24 Oras," Melgazar Estrella served the Kapuso network for over 10 years and provided laughs as the resident joker of the team.

He also shared many stories of his experience as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Iraq, his plans to open a business, as well as his dreams for his children.

Estrella was on the CALABARZON beat on the first day of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon back in March.

Before he died, Consulta was able to speak to him on the phone, where he expressed his desire to recover for his family and return to work.

He also thanked his friends and colleagues in GMA who helped him and his family in these trying times.

Thank you, Mel, for your service and friendship. Rest in peace. —MGP, GMA News
