A psychologist has explained what real trust should look like in relationships and, no, it’s not what many people think it is.

In a “Share Ko Lang” episode with Chito Miranda on Monday, psychologist Dr. Anna Tuazon said a good marriage isn’t one without mistakes, but rather about how couples deal with those mistakes.

“Kasi people misdefine trust, e. They think trust is, ‘I trust you never to hurt me’ or ‘I trust you never to let me down,’ and again being human, that happens,” she said.

“So the real trust is that, ‘when things are down, when you hurt me, I trust that you will repair with me. I trust that we can work things out,’” she added.

“I think other problems in a marriage maso-solve as long as you realize you’re always on the same side.”

The doctor also shared her dislike for marriage vows which promise to make the other person happy.

“May pet peeve ako pag sa mga marriage vows: ‘I promise to make you happy.’ My pet peeve kasi, you can never promise that,” she said.

“What you can promise however is to not to get in their way of their happiness.” – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
