Woman rescues dog from oncoming train in Manila

A woman ran to rescue her dog from an oncoming train in Manila.

As shown on a CCTV footage on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” on Sunday, a white dog ran to the tracks while a train was fast approaching in Brgy. 593, Sta. Mesa.

Rachelle, the dog’s 19-year-old owner, was then seen chasing after him.

Rachelle was able to save her pet named Buddy just in time, but she was hit by the oncoming train.

When Elsie heard that someone was run over by the train, she said she first thought it was just a dog.

“Nanlambot talaga ang katawan ko dahil hindi ko akalaing anak ko ‘yung nandoon. Hindi ko talaga akalaing masasagasaan ang anak ko ng train sa tinagal-tagal na namin dito.”

("I suddenly felt weak. I never thought my daughter could get hit by a train since we’ve been here for a long time.")

According to Elsie, her daughter loves dogs. Rachelle has two, and 9-month-old Buddy is her favorite.

Given as a gift by her uncle, Buddy was spoiled by Rachelle. Not only did she sleep beside her pet, but she would also cook for it and dress it in cute clothes.

After the accident, Rachelle was found on her belly lying on the grass. She was quickly carried into a tricycle and brought to a hospital. Fortunately, after receiving immediate treatment, she survived and is now at the hospital’s ward.

Medical findings showed that after she was dragged by the train, her hip bone was dislocated.

Meanwhile, since Rachelle’s accident, Elsie noticed that Buddy had become lethargic and lost weight.

Elsie also said they had been struggling with Rachelle’s medical bills. Aside from having to stop selling porridge for the meantime, they had to shell out Php 70,000 for Rachelle’s treatment.

Their neighbors have been nothing but helpful, shelling out money to raise funds for Rachelle.

Rachelle has to undergo another operation for metal implants. Her doctor said that should the surgery, post-surgery, and therapy be successful, she could go back to her activities before the accident.

Meanwhile, according to Brgy. 593 Chairman Antonette Lacap, they make sure to remind the public to be careful when passing by the tracks.

To help Rachelle, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” offered financial aid and a donor also gave Rachelle a wheelchair.

While still recovering, Rachelle took the time to have a video call with her family and Buddy.

“Chel, hindi ko naman lagi nasasabi lagi sa inyong mahal na mahal ko kayo (Chel, I don’t say it often but I love you so much),” Elsie said during the call.

Her sister Jenny added: “Alam kong kayang-kaya mo iyan. Magpalakas ka lang. Nandito lang kami naghihintay sa ’yo sa paggaling mo.”

("I know you can get through this. Just regain your strength. We’re all here waiting for you.")
