Ellen Adarna explains why she prefers live-in arrangements before marriage

Ellen Adarna says she prefers to have a live-in arrangement set-up in relationships before marriage.

The actress shared her opinion in the "Between Us Queens" podcast with Pia Wurtzbach, Bianca Guidotti, and Carla Lizardo.

Ellen, who is currently engaged to actor Derek Ramsay, said she agrees with the concept seeing as her parents are "not very conservative."

In fact, it was even her own father who suggested that she should live in with her boyfriend back when she was 18, urging her to get to know him better.

"Kasi 'yun talaga fear niya, 'yung magpakasal kami at a very young age (That was his fear, that we would marry at a young age). So he wanted us to get to know our partner to know what we want and what we don’t want," Ellen said.

Ellen said her father is unlike most who are traditional.

"My dad is so different but my mom was always scared," she said.

She added her father always used "tough love" on them and believed that he has to let his children go for them to learn.

Ellen admitted, "I think that’s why my relationships don’t last long kasi ako hindi ako matiis eh."

"OK, we lived in for months. I don’t wanna be with this guy so why would I waste my time," she would think to herself.

Ellen said during live-in arrangements in her past relationships she would pay for her own bills and they follow the KKB (kanya-kanyang bayad) rule.

The actress said she couldn't imagine being in a relationship with someone she didn't live with because she would feel that she doesn't know her partner completely.

She also said that when she met Derek, she was in a much better place mentally which allowed her to communicate with him in a healthy way.

Ellen also has advice for those who want to live-in with their partners but are afraid.

"Well, yes you should try it kasi hindi mo pa natry 'di ba and you’ll never know unless you try (You should try it because you haven't yet, and you'll never know unless you try)," she said. "And mahirap talaga if you don’t really know the person, let’s say if you’re going to marry him mag-iiba kasi talaga eh (And it's hard if you don't really know the person, let's say if you marry him, he will really turn out to be different)."

"Mas mabuti na ‘yung i-test drive mo muna (Better to test drive it first)," she added. "For your protection also you have to think about the future and yourself because things can really go wrong."
