Obama family dog, Bo, has died of cancer
Bo, the Obama family dog, has died of cancer.
On Instagram Sunday, former US President Barack Obama shared the sad news with a series of their “true friend and loyal companion’s” photos, including one where he’s running in the White House.
“For more than a decade, Bo was a constant, gentle presence in our lives—happy to see us on our good days, our bad days, and everyday in between,” he wrote in the caption.
According to the former US President, Bo had always “tolerated all the fuss that came in with being in the White House.”
“He had a big bark but no bite, loved to jump in the pool in the summer, was unflappable with children, lived for scraps around the dinner table, and had great hair,” he wrote.
“He was exactly what we needed and more than we ever expected. We will miss him dearly.”
Former US First Lady Michelle Obama, also remembered their fur baby with shots of Bo coming along with her to some duties and events, just there, serving support and cuteness.
“We said goodbye to our best friend—our dog, Bo—after a battle with cancer,” she wrote.
She looked back and remembered how Bo became a “companion to the girls” and to everyone for more than 10 years.
“Bo was a constant, comforting presence in our lives. He was there when the girls came home from school, greeting them with a wag,” she wrote.
“He was there when Barack and I needed a break, sauntering into one of our offices like he owned the place, a ball clamped firmly in his teeth,” she added.
According to Michelle, Bo was also the one who helped them “see the girls off to college and adjust to life as empty nesters.”
With everyone stuck at home because of the COVID-19 threat, Michelle said that “no one was happier than Bo.”
“All his people were under one roof again—just like the day we got him. I will always be grateful that Bo and the girls got to spend so much time together at the end.”
Although Bo will be “dearly” missed, the Obama family is “thankful that he lived such a joyful life full of snuggles, games of fetch, and evenings spent lying on the couch.”
Michelle also gave thanks to those who loved Bo with them over the years and asked everyone to “hug the furry members” of their families and give them belly rubs.
