Sisters Maxene and Saab Magalona expressed their grief after their grandmother Edwina Koch Arroyo passed away on Wednesday.

On Friday, Saab shared a photo of herself when she was just a little girl with their grandmother, as well as screenshots of some of her long emails.

Saab said her grandmother called her Isabella La Catolica, the nickname of Queen Isabella I. She said Grammy lived right next to their home and looked after her and her seven siblings when her parents weren’t around.

"Our yaya would use her as a threat when we were being difficult ('tatawagan ko si grammy') and I don’t know why that line would instantly make me behave. I wasn’t scared of her, I just always wanted to be on my best behavior whenever she was around," Saab said.

"Plus, I knew she would force me to take a nap (she’d say 'meh-meh na') and what child likes naps? (Children are crazy, naps are wonderful)."

As she became an adult, Saab said she and her grandmother had more meaningful conversations about life and she received long e-mails from her "about the most random of things."

"I never deleted them because somehow I knew this day would come. I hear her voice in her letters and my collection brings me comfort today," Saab said.

Meanwhile, Maxene shared a throwback photo of her family dining with her grandmother when she was just a child.

She wrote, "Gratitude for Grammy The Great. We will miss your stories about the past, the lessons you learned along the way, the words of wisdom you selflessly shared, the love you showed your children and pets, the comfort you made your grandchildren feel especially when we were unwell and the devotion you had for God which inspired us to open our hearts and souls to Him as well."

"I am forever grateful that you were my Grammy. Rest in eternal paradise, Grammy," Maxene added. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
