Although they’ve been together and so in love for many years now, Bianca Umali and Ruru Madrid’s first impressions of each other were actually completely different from what they have come to know.

The Sparkle stars talked about it in their interview on the “Updated with Nelson Canlas” podcast.

Bianca said, “My first impression to him was…”

“Maangas,” Ruru completed the sentence. “Kasi kita nila na parang the way ako makipagusap, the way ako pumorma.”

But Bianca said that this first impression comes from Ruru being very confident with himself.

“'Yung confidence niya kasi can — for people who don't know him — [easily] be misinterpreted as yabang eh,” she said. “But when people do know him, 'yung confidence niya comes from really just good intentions and he wants to connect with people, kasi sobrang outgoing si Ruru and sobrang extrovert.”

For the Kapuso Action Drama Prince, he first thought that Bianca was “masungit talaga, mataray, hindi namamansin, to the point na hindi mo alam kung dapat mo bang lapitan.”

Ruru added that many people think this, and shared that when they go out, people would get shy around Bianca.

“Pero once na [merong] tao na maglalakas loob na kunyari mag-pa-picture sa kaniya, mas mararamdaman mo yong init ng pagtanggap niya sa ‘yo. So I guess, 'yun din yung nangyari sa akin noong una,” he said.

Ruru recalled one of their projects from their early teens, where they played supporting characters in “Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa.”

“Parang never kami nag-usap dahil nga nasusungitan ako sa kaniya, tapos siya siguro naangasan siya sa akin.”

RuCa later reunited and the rest is history.

“And then nag-usap lang kami nung time na ‘Sunday Pinasaya’ na after I think five years,” Ruru said. “[Nagkaroon] ng conversation na medyo mahaba-haba.”

Bianca and Ruru are currently working on “The Write One,” where they play Liam and Joyce.
