Family living in cemetery for 20 years gets new house thanks to 'Unang Hirit'
A family who has been living in a public cemetery for 20 years won a new house from the "Bagong Bahay, Bagong Buhay" Year 4 promo of "Unang Hirit."
Out of 8,744 candidates, Nelly Baladad from Pasay City is the lucky winner of a two-story house in Magalang, Pampanga.
Nelly has two children, one of whom has cerebral palsy, a disability that affects a person's ability to move and maintain balance and posture.
Her husband works as a janitor and earns only P12,000 a month. As a sideline, Nelly cleans the tombs at the cemetery.
Nelly joined UH's promo in the hopes of moving out of their current house, which is made of wood and plywood.
"Simula nung sumali ako, sabi ko kay Lord, 'Lord, sumali po ako sa ganito, kung anuman po 'yung maibibigay mo sa 'kin, kung anuman 'yung karapat-dapat, pero kung 'yung mayroon pong iba, tanggap ko po," said Nelly.
"Pero kung ako po, maraming, maraming salamat po," she continued.
Aside from the house, "Unang Hirit" gave them appliances, a big shopping cart's worth of groceries and an entire refrigerator filled with food, and other supplies like a mattress and diapers for their child with cerebral palsy, as well as a bicycle and helmet.
