Maine Mendoza defends Arjo Atayde amid flood control fiasco: ‘I am with my husband in this’
Maine Mendoza has come forward to defend her husband Quezon City 1st District Representative Arjo Atayde, who was named by the Discaya couple on Monday as among those allegedly involved in anomalous flood control programs.
The actress took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to share her statement, calling the claims “baseless allegations” and urging the public to refrain from spreading hate and to wait for the truth.
“Teka lang muna, those are baseless allegations. Please refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks at him, including me and our family, until facts come out,” Maine wrote.
Maine added that she stands by her husband, emphasizing he has done nothing wrong and is simply doing his best to serve his people. She also said she’s hoping and praying that the people who are truly responsible will be held accountable.
“I am with my husband in this. Wala siyang ginagawang masama sa loob. He has been doing his best to serve the people of his district in Quezon City since the beginning,” she said.
“I sincerely hope and pray that the people who are TRULY responsible will be held accountable and that innocent individuals be spared from this mess. Napaka-unfair,” Maine added.
Arjo was among the public officials named by contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya as allegedly involved in corruption in the country’s flood control projects.
Shortly after, Arjo released a statement on Instagram Stories "categorically" denying the allegations, saying that he has never engaged with contractors nor benefited from any deals.

"Hindi totoo ang mga akusasyon na ito. I have never used my position for personal gain, and I never will," Arjo said as he promised to "avail of all remedies under the law to clear my name and hold accountable those who spread these falsehoods."
Maine has been married to Arjo since 2023.
