Benjamin Alves credits wife Chelsea Robato’s support as he juggles ‘Quezon,’ ‘Akusada’ projects

Benjamin Alves expressed his deep appreciation for his wife, Chelsea Robato, whose support kept him balanced and steady amid his back-to-back projects this year, the historical biopic “Quezon and the Kapuso series “Akusada.”

The Kapuso actor told GMA News Online that he had long been waiting for this moment in his career, but admitted that managing both projects came with major sacrifices, especially in his schedule.

“Nagpaalam po ako sa asawa ko na this year was gonna be—I’ve been waiting for this moment for such a long time and sumabay din ‘yung ‘Akusada,’” Benjamin said.

He credited Sparkle GMA Artist Center for helping him with his schedule.

“I was going [from the] set ng Quezon City, tapos pupunta ako ng Tayabas, Quezon, the very next day. So pabalik-balik. Labor of love,” he said.

Amid the hectic filming days, Benjamin said that his wife’s understanding and encouragement made it possible for him to take on both roles wholeheartedly.

“It’s really a testament to how supportive my wife is. Kasi talagang pinaalam ko siya. Kasi siya ‘yung nakakarinig sa ‘kin na mga ilang beses nagsasalita na parang Quezon sa bahay," he said.

“Yeah, it’s really her allowing me to have that adventure and kasi it would take so much time away from us trying to build a family and having our second year together. So, yeah, I’m glad na nandito na. I think I owe her a vacation.”

Aside from Benjamin, Jericho Rosales will also play the title role in “Quezon.”

The film is directed by Jerrold Tarog. It will follow the life of Manuel L. Quezon, a lawyer and a soldier who became the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944, highlighting his tumultuous presidential campaign against Emilio Aguinaldo.
