Mav Gonzales and her husband Matthew Valeña are expecting their first child!
The married couple announced the good news during their guesting on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on Friday.
"We're expecting our first baby," the award-winning Kapuso journalist shared.
According to Mav, she found out she was pregnant after she had gone back to the Philippines, and Matthew was in the United States.
"It's a honeymoon baby so parang pagbalik ko po ng Pilipinas, 'cause I was just diagnosed with [polycystic ovary syndrome] right before the wedding, so sabi ng OB, 'you have PCOS, may infection ka, it's gonna be hard for you to conceive,'" she said.
"Pagbalik ko po dito, I went for a follow-up checkup and the doctor said, 'you have an infection ulit.' Something in me, naisip ko lang, 'hmm mag a-antibiotics ako, hindi pa ko dinadatnan, parang dapat mag test ako just to be safe' and it was a positive test."
Mav added that she and Matthew did not cry upon discovering they were expecting, noting, "I think we were both shocked kasi it was very unexpected, definitely unplanned."
The couple also shared about what has been running through their mind since they found out about the pregnancy.
Per Matthew, he has been thinking a lot for many years now about what kind of father he wants to be.
"My dad was a wonderful dad, very family driven and, you know, I think I want to take that and just go beyond that a little bit more. I think my biggest focus is just focusing on generational trauma, why do I feel the way I feel about certain things, and helping them to understand that there are gonna be things that they don't understand, why they think this, but I'll help them to understand," he said.
Mav, for her part, shared that the first thing she thought about was her hectic schedule as a reporter.
"Very busy 'yung schedule ng reporter na sometimes it's not enough for a relationship and let alone kung may baby ka pang inaalagaan, so I think ngayon I'm mentally preparing to make time for everything. For the baby, syempre for my husband also, it can't just be the baby. For the family," she said.
In October, Mav shared photos from her intimate wedding to Matthew via her Instagram account.
She had announced her engagement to Matthew in June.
Before their wedding, she got a surprise bridal shower from her journalist friends.
