Carla Abellana reveals husband proposed to her on her birthday during Japan trip

Carla Abellana revealed that her husband, Dr. Reginald Santos, proposed to her on her actual birthday last June during their trip to Tokyo, Japan. 

In the second part of Carla's GMA Integrated News interview with Aubrey Carampel, which aired on "24 Oras" Thursday, the Kapuso star shared that the proposal happened while they were at Shibuya Sky. 

"Nagpunta kami ng Shibuya Sky, so ano siya, na-stress siya noon, parang 'di siya mapakali," she said. 

Per Carla, Reginald was watching the time to make sure they would catch the sunset from the observation deck. 

"Hinahabol niya 'yung oras, sunset, magandang view sa Shibuya Sky, mga ganong bagay na hindi ko naman din naiintindihan na ba't kaya sobrang na-s-stress siya? 'Yun pala mag-p-propose siya." 

In the same interview, Carla shared how she did not pray for her to fall in love again, noting that she just surrendered everything to God. 

"Walang ganong prayers, talagang nag-surrender lang ako kay Lord kung anong plano niya sa buhay ko, tatanggapin ko whether ano ba mag-focus na lang ako sa career ko for the rest of my life or i-consider ko 'yung pag-aasawa at pagkakaroon ng sariling pamilya. Wala akong pinag-pray na ganon na specific more of talagang surrendering na lang." 

Carla and Reginald are focused on building a family soon. However, per Carampel's report, Carla's husband is supportive of her returning to showbiz anytime.

"Alam niyang masaya ako sa work ko, alam niyang sobrang importante sa akin ang work ko. Any support na kailangan, ibibigay niya definitely," she said. 

Carla marked her 39th birthday on June 12, 2025, the day that Reginald also proposed to her. 

In August 2025, she confirmed on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" that she was dating someone. 

Amid rumors that she was getting married, Carla said last October that she would like to keep things "private."

She eventually announced her engagement in early December, posting via Instagram a photo of her ring-clad hand. 

Carla and Reginald tied the knot on December 27. In her vows, Carla called him her "first and last" love.
