129 LGBT+ couples take part in commitment ceremony on Valentine's Day in Quezon City

129 queer couples take part in commitment ceremony in Quezon City on Valentine's Day

LGBT+ couples took part in a commitment ceremony held in Quezon City on Valentine's Day.

The annual event was held at the MICE Center, Quezon City Hall Compound, and 129 queer couples participated after registration.

As seen in a Facebook Reel, the couples participated in traditional wedding activities, such as walking down the aisle, eating a wedding cake, dancing, and toasting.

The couples thanked Mayor Joy Belmonte for the project.

"We'll always celebrate your love here in Quezon City hindi lang ngayong Valentine's Day kundi sa araw-araw," Belmonte said in her speech.

"Habang patuloy ang mas malaking laban para sa pantay na karapatan, makakaasa kayo na ang lungsod Quezon ang inyong kanlungan," she added.

The commitment ceremony is an annual Valentine's Day event in Quezon City, where LGBT+ couples exchange their I dos. However, it is not a legal wedding as this is still not allowed by Philippine law. It is a way for the local government to recognize the couples' love and identity.

The ceremony is led by Mayor Belmonte, while other QC public officials serve as principal sponsors.
