Sunshine Garcia on mutual support with husband Alex Castro: 'Kasi hindi ito ownership'

Sunshine Garcia opened up about how she and her husband, Bulacan Vice Governor Alex Castro, navigate decision-making and personal passions in their marriage.

In an interview on “Unang Hirit” on Friday, Sunshine was asked who should have the final say between husband and wife.

“Depende ‘yan kasi pagka may kailangan kaming pagdesisyon na talagang malaking bagay, parehas, ‘yung opinyon niya, ipinyon ko, pinagsasama namin. Hindi pwedeng ako kaagad ang masunod o siya. Kasi baka mamaya meron akong nakikita na hindi ko—dahil gusto ko ako masunod, ‘yung reason niya, hindi ko na nakikita. Depende ‘yun eh. Nagjo-join kaming dalawa kung ano ‘yung tamang desisyon para doon,” she said.

However, the SexBomb Girls member noted that when it comes to household responsibilities, she naturally takes charge.

“Pero pagdating sa bahay, automatic ako ‘yun. Magluluto, ulam, grocery, automatic ako ‘yun,” Sunshine said.

Asked how supportive they are of each other’s personal pursuits, Sunshine said she does not try to control her husband’s political career, even if public service can be complicated.

“Parang sa kanya, bilang public servant siya, gusto niya talaga sa politics. Hindi ko pwedeng controlin na wag, ayoko. Although magulo talaga ‘yung buhay niya, ‘yun ‘yung gusto niya,” she said.

She acknowledged that politics is his passion, just as dancing and performing remain hers.

“Same sa akin na ito ‘yung passion ko, pagsasayaw, ito ‘yung grupo ko, pwede ko ba mabalikan sandali, parehas naming sinusuportahan ‘yung gusto namin. Kasi hindi ito ownership na, ay hindi pwede. Huwag mong gawin ‘yan, hindi ka dapat ganito, hindi ka dapat yun. Hindi ganun eh. So nagbibigayang kaming dalawa. Mas maganda ‘yung parehas ‘yung sinusuportahan kung ano ‘yung gusto ng isa't-isa,” she said.

Sunshine and Alex got married in March 2019. She has three children together Axel, Alexander, and their newborn daughter Alynna. The couple are also parents to two older sons, Ching and Ashton.

During the SexBomb Girls' reunion concert, Alex was there to show his full support for Sunshine.

“Thank you lagi sa support, hinahayaan mo akong mag grow at gawin 'yung mga bagay na makakapagpasaya sa akin thank you sa pag-intindi,” Sunshine told Alex through a social media post. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News
