Daughter reassures love for mom with Alzheimer's after learning she's adopted
A woman's heartfelt video that showed her speaking to her bedridden mother with Alzheimer's disease and expressing gratitude and love after learning that she was adopted has tugged on the heartstrings of many netizens.
According to Darlene Cay's report on "24 Oras" Friday, the video was uploaded by Nina Rayos.
In the clip, Nina reassured her mom Toyang of her love, saying, "Alam ko na na ampon ako. Okay lang, love kita. I love you. Salamat kasi inalagaan mo ako. Alam ko na."
Nina shared that she noticed when she was a child that she did not look like any of her siblings and parents. She also had a 50-year age gap with her mom.
"I am adopted and then nung nakuha daw ako is from hospital. Ang sinasabi nila menopausal baby ako," she said in the report.
Just two weeks ago, she discovered the truth about her identity from a relative.
"Nagkwento sya ganiyan and during the conversation nahagip ko 'yung word na nung 'nakuha' nga si Nina. Sabi ko 'nahagip mo 'yun, sinabi, narinig mo 'yung nakuha?' Tapos sabi niya, 'oo nga bakit nga nakuha? Siguro nga ampon ka talaga' sabi nung husband ko," she said.
She then asked her sibling in Canada and her other relatives about it, discovering that her parents took her in shortly after she was born.
"Ipinanganak ako, tinake in na ako ng mommy and daddy ko kaya sila na 'yung nakapirma doon sa birth certificate and then from then on hanggang sa inuwi ako sa bahay," she said.
According to Nina, she never felt that she was treated differently compared to her siblings, noting that her family was never indifferent when it came to her.
"Tapos wala din sumbatan. Parang mas ako pa nga 'yung prinsesa talaga. Ang pinaka-fondest memory ko was every Sunday 'pag gigisingin ako ni mama nang maaga, naka-ready na 'yung dress ko. Parang mas favorite talaga nila ako," she shared.
Nina feels that how and when she discovered the truth about herself came at the right time. She also became emotional when she saw how her mother reacted when she admitted to knowing the truth.
"Tumingin siya sa'kin talaga, iba 'yung respond ng eyes niya tumutulo 'yung luha niya. Dun ako mas lalo naiyak," she shared.
Nina also said that she is thankful that this all happened in God's perfect timing.
"Have I known it earlier, siguro nung bata-bata ako dahil 'yun nga, limited lang 'yung capacity ng isip ko nun on how will I process it and how will I take it, baka nga nagalit ako sa kanila."
While she now knows the truth about her adoption, she is also leaving it up to God's timing when she'll discover the identity of her biological parents.
For Nina, being adopted does not diminish her identity. Instead, she feels the luckiest for having been chosen and deeply loved by he parents.
Now that her mom Toyang is the one in need of care, Nina vowed to give back the same love she received from her.
"Lord, maraming salamat kasi inilagay mo 'ko sa pamilya na nag-alaga sa akin at nagmahal sa'kin. Sabi ko kay mama, 'ibabalik kita nang maayos kay God' kaya hanggang sa huli, aalagaan ko si mama. Sabi nga nila, 'yung mga adopted child was chosen and loved so kami 'yung pinili talaga at pinageffortan talaga na mahalin," she said.
