Bettinna Carlos reveals her twins were conceived separately in rare pregnancy phenomenon
Bettinna Carlos revealed that her twin baby boys were conceived separately via a rare phenomenon called "superfetation."
According to Cleveland Clinic, superfetation "involves getting pregnant a second time while you're already pregnant."
Bettinna shared the story of how she found out about the "miracle" on Instagram. The actress said she went for an ultrasound due to her history of ectopic pregnancy, but the doctor discovered a second embryo during the checkup.
"There was also heartbeat already on the second embryo. This was at six weeks," she said. "Our twins were not from the same egg. In fact they were not fertilized at the same time (hence the difference in size)."
"Nauna 'yung isa, sumunod 'yung pangalawa pero sabay silang lalabas," she recalled her doctor saying.
Bettinna said she immediately messaged her husband, Mikki Eduardo, who was outside the clinic with their two daughters.
"This was probably the biggest shock of our lives," she said.
Bettina said having twins showed her God's power and humor "to answer unspoken desires we don't even dare pray for."
"You see when I was young, pangarap ko magkaanak na kambal kasi cute. But when I married I did not even think of praying for it because Mikki and I both do not have the twin gene," she said.
"Sorry naman, inismall ko si Lord. Pero gets, this was not the kind of desire I would really actively pray for."
Bettina said she wanted to have a baby boy and actively prayed for one.
"And I told God, 'Lord sana po boy na. And then gawa kami ulit kaagad sana boy ulit Lord para 'di malungkot 'yung boy at may kalaro siya. Pero Lord up to You.'"
Her eldest child, Gummy, also joked about having twins, which she just ignored.
"And lo and behold, we have twins and both are boys. God really did give us two (boys) like I prayed for and He gave them to us as twins—something I did not even pray for," Bettina said.
"What a miracle Lord. Wala Ka talagang limit. Thank you for our boys," she added.
Bettina announced the birth of her twins on Father's Day.
She and Mikki got married in December 2020. Two years later, she revealed suffering from a miscarriage.
Aside from the newborn twins, they have a daughter named Amina, while Gummy is Bettina's daughter from a past relationship.
