Camille Prats says she's educating herself on AI platforms to guide her children
Camille Prats said she is currently taking an online course on artificial intelligence (AI) platforms so she can guide her children on how to use them properly.
In the latest episode of "Kami Ang Inyong Mga..." podcast, Camille, Iya Villania, and Suzi Entrata-Abrera shared their thoughts on the growing popularity of AI.
While Suzi and Iya are against it, Camille said she is trying to understand it.
"Gusto kong malaman kung anong kaya niyang gawin at kung ano din 'yung limitations niya, ano 'yung strengths niya para at the same time kaya ko 'tong ituro sa mga anak ko," she said.
"Kasi mahirap kapag mas maalam sila kaysa sa akin eh. Kailangan mas maalam ako. So I got this online course so whenever they're doing it, makikita ko," she added.
Camille said she noticed that Gen Z and Gen Alpha are more familiar with AI. Her son Nathan is quick to spot AI videos and has taught her some of the things she should look out for.
"Minsan, tayo pa actually ang nabubudol," she said.
Suzi, meanwhile, said that AI is beneficial if used as a tool, but added a caveat.
"Hindi mo siya din dapat gamiting crutch na natututo ka palang mag-aral, ginamit mo na siya. Dapat aral ka na at gagamitin mo siya for furthering your knowledge," she said.
She said when it is being used to do homework, people no longer think on their own.
The "Unang Hirit" host also pointed out that AI can make mistakes and do not always deliver accurate information.
"If you're a learned person, makikita mo din, lalo na kung libre lang 'yung AI mo, 'yung mura-mura... may butas siya eh," she said.
Suzi expressed concern that young people using AI as primary information source may take everything it says as correct.
"Dahil may alam kami, dahil tumanda na kami, alam namin na parang mali ito kasi I've chanced upon this before and it's not the same. Eh kung bata ka, you take it as the truth talaga," she said.
Iya, for her part, said that there is something about AI that she cannot embrace even though her husband, Drew Arellano, loves it.
"Buti na lang graduate na si Drew. Pero kasi kung hindi malamang 'yung thesis niya, baka si DeepSeek or si Claude 'yung gumawa," she joked.
DeepSeek and Claude are among the generative AI platforms that have been launched in recent years, along with Gemini, Copilot, and ChatGPT.
Earlier this year, the Department of Education released AI guidelines for basic education, emphasizing that it should be only a support and not a substitute for human judgment.
