Why more couples are opting for simpler weddings these days, according to a relationship consultant
Bea Alonzo recently joined the list of celebrities who have opted for a simpler wedding with their significant others.
In an interview on "Unang Hirit" on Thursday, relationship consultant Maribel Dionisio said that more and more couples are actually choosing a "simple and intimate" celebration.
The main factors are that the couples are usually too busy to plan an elaborate busy, or simply want to save on cost.
"Siguro nanggaling din to dahil sa [COVID-19 pandemic]," Dionisio also said. "Maraming COVID weddings nun. Biglang nalaman ng tao, pwede palang tatlo lang kami. Simplified wedding."
"Hindi kailangan gumastos ng malaki. Pwede isave ang pera for the married life already. Also to get away from the stress, the family dynamics, and focus on each other on the marriage and intimacy," she added.
The pros of such a wedding is "you get what you want."
"'Yung focus on the vows and the meaning of the marriage so that is really good," Dionisio said.
The cons, especially for celebrity couples such as Bea and Vincent, is the possible reaction of "'yung mga fans, 'yung mga magulang, 'yung mga kaibigan."
"Pero many times, like them, nagkakaroon ng party afterwards. At least they had that focal point na silang dalawa lang."
How important is prenup?
During Bea's engagement with Vincent Co, prenuptial agreements became part of the online discussion.
Dionisio said that not everyone has to have that, but it does clarify many important aspects of a potential marriage.
"Pro sana pagusapan bago ma-engage," she said. "kasi baka magbreak 'yung engagement because maraming siguro dagdag ni nanay, ni tatay, so you want to clarify things and it's important na naka-clarify."
"'Yung marriage preparation is important para klaro ano bang klaseng buhay magasawa ang gusto natin. Will we live on our own, will we be independent, ano ba yung role ng parents and in-laws in our life?"
Bea and Vincent tied the knot in a civil wedding officiated by Mayor Nancy Binay at the Makati City Hall on Monday.
Bea confirmed her relationship with Vincent in August 2025.
