Lea Salonga emotional as son Nic Chien moves into college dorm
Lea Salonga shared an emotional milestone as her son, Nic Chien, officially moved into his college dorm, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
On Instagram, the Broadway star said the past few days had been emotional for their family as they adjusted to the transition.
“My babes is now officially moved into his dorm. This new adventure has begun in earnest. It was definitely an emotional few days for us, but we’ll be ok,” Lea wrote.
Despite the bittersweet moment, Lea expressed her pride in Nic as he embarks on this new adventure.
“Onward and upward, Nic Chien. We’re all so proud of you!” she added.
Nic is the son of Lea to husband Robert Chien.
Last year, Nic and Lea opened up about his transition journey in an interview with a magazine. He said he knew he was trans at age 14 and began taking testosterone in January 2025.
In the interview, Nic said the process of his transition was "emotional" but also "the most ideal situation for me."
Nic, who made his theater debut in 2017, joined Lea in the Philippine staging of "Into the Woods."
