Who says kare-kare should only be paired with rice?

At Binondo Boys, a 24/7 diner in Quezon City serving a fusion of Filipino and Chinese cuisine, kare-kare gets a creative twist by being paired with knife-cut noodles instead of steamed white rice.

On Tuesday’s episode of “Unang Hirit,” Binondo Boys’ R&D chef Marvin Raymundo said the kare-kare noodles (P420) is part of the restaurant’s secret menu, which centers on creativity and experimentation.

“We wanted to put up something creative, so that’s why we came up with a secret menu,” Marvin said.

“It was also an opportunity for us to do whatever we wanted in the kitchen,” he added, speaking in a mix of English and Filipino.

The kare-kare noodles are prepared by blanching the knife-cut noodles before tossing them in a seasoning mix with aromatics. The noodles are then topped with tender beef, kare-kare sauce, and a sprinkle of crunchy garlic and leeks.

Aside from the kare-kare noodles, the secret menu also features other dishes that are available exclusively to diners at the restaurant.
