83 Philippine restaurants short-listed for Asia's top restaurants list

Over 80 restaurants from all over the Philippines have been short-listed this month for the 2012/2013 edition of “The Miele Guide,” an annual publication which lists Asia's best chefs and restaurants.

Among those that made it to this year's shortlist are:

Also on the shortlist of 83 Philippine restaurants is Antonio's in Tagaytay, which ranked eleventh in the 2011/2012 edition of The Miele Guide, for its "comfortable, lightfilled dining spaces," the "personable and experienced service," and the "extensive menu that combines the best of imported Western ingredients with local produce."

The shortlist is determined by an invited panel of restaurant critics, and is the first round of The Miele Guide's judging process.

The second round is the online public voting, which is open to all members of the public with a valid email address. Voters may also nominate restaurants not in the critics' shortlist. Online voting may be done until May 25.

During the third round, a jury composed of foodies and food and wine professionals based across Asia are invited to select from the shortlist.

For the final round, The Miele Guide's in-house team as well as contributing editors across the region dine anonymously at the top ranked restaurants to verify the annual ranking of the top 20 restaurants in Asia, which is released every year.

Created in 2008, The Miele Guide also profiles the best dining spots across Asia, featuring the best restaurants in Brunei Darussalam, China, Hong Kong and Macau, Indonesia, India, Japan, Cambodia, Korea, Laos, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mongolia, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

The guide also lists each country's top five restaurants. All voters and jury members are asked to consider the quality of the food, the restaurant's ambience, and the level of service.

The Miele Guide also notes that votes should reflect the tastes of Asian diners.
