It's a week full of concept restaurants for Saksi's Midnight Express. The first two episodes this week featured a breakfast nook and a Spanish restaurant. The last two restaurants host Mikael Daez visited are perfect for playful souls and serious straight-A's.

Sci-fi Cafe, a haven for toy lovers in Ortigas

The child in you will squeal with delight once you step inside Sci-fi Cafe in Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas—if you weren't already an out-and-out geek, that is. This concept restuarant is designed with toy collections you would love to bring home.

Sci-fi Cafe's owner Richard Chua owns all of the toys in the restaurant. He also said that the cafe was inspired by Planet Hollywood in the United States and a museum restaurant in Korea.

A must-try in Sci-fi Cafe is Planet of the Shrimps, based on the film Planet of the Apes. It's a pizza with cream cheese and a spinach base with mozzarella, anchovies, and shrimps. Another is Iron Ham Carbonara, based on the Iron Man franchise, of course.

If you want to dine with action figures, be sure to add Sci-fi Cafe to your list.

Midnight Owl, a corner for all-nighters in Quezon City

Pulling off an all-nighter to meet a deadline or review for an exam is a big challenge for students. Coffee shops can be too noisy with endless conversations, and bedrooms may only tempt them to sleep. In Quezon City near University of the Philippines-Diliman, there stands Midnight Owl, a small corner for those who need to stay awake all night.

Owner of Midnight Owl Cass Sarmiento said, "We are a study cafe and it's really suited for students of all ages wanting to study and like stay up all night."

The study cafe is open from 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. But during exam seasons, it's open until 4 a.m.

According to Sarmiento, the dishes served in Midnight Owl are meant to keep customers stay awake. For heavy studying at night, Sarmiento recommends getting roast beef with mashed potato to stuff on protein and the Oreo Surprise, or simply Oreo cake in a jar for a much-needed sugar rush.

If you really can't fight off the sleepiness, you can take a nap at the study cafe. But only for 20 minutes max. After that, one of their staff will wake you up. — VC, GMA News
